IRS notices and letters explained
Find the code printed on your IRS notice or letter (such as CP2000, CP14 or LT11) below to see what it means in plain English, how long you usually have to respond, what to do and what to avoid. The pages are grouped by how urgent each notice usually is. The date printed on your own notice always controls.
Severity 5 of 5: Urgent: rights or deadlines at stake
Severity 4 of 5: High: act promptly
Severity 3 of 5: Moderate: respond by the deadline
Severity 2 of 5: Low: check it and respond if asked
Severity 1 of 5: Informational
How is severity rated?
Severity is RAHA Financials' own 1 to 5 rating, not an IRS classification. 1 means informational, 2 a low-stakes review or minor action, 3 a response or payment due within a window with no enforcement yet, 4 escalating collection or examination with a deadline, and 5 imminent enforcement or a deadline that can cost you rights. Each notice page explains the reason for its rating.
